The Panthers received 1,383 poll points and was the highest ranked Atlantic Coast Conference school. Penn State totaled 947 points. Nebraska (57 of 63 first-place votes), Texas and Kentucky are the top three teams in order. Following Pitt are Stanford, Wisconsin, Louisville, Texas A&M and Purdue.
It marks the fourth straight year in which the Panthers are ranked in the top five to open the season and sixth consecutive season to be ranked in the top 10 in the preseason. It is the ninth straight year that Pitt is ranked among the top 10 in the country at some point during the season.
Pitt will open the 2026 regular season at the AVCA First Serve Showcase in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, against No. 3 Kentucky. The Panthers will then host No. 15 Kansas and No. 6 Wisconsin in the Opening Spike Classic Aug. 28-30 inside the Petersen Events Center.
The Panthers will play at No. 24 Brigham Young Sept. 4 and will meet No. 22 Tennessee in the Shriner's Children's Showdown at the Net Sept. 9 at ESPN Wide World of Sports in Kissimmee, Florida.
In ACC play, Pitt will play No. 5 Stanford twice, No. 7 Louisville, No. 11 Southern Methodist twice and No. 19 North Carolina.
