Driver accused of trying to run over couple and their dog during walk at the park in LA By Jericho Tran Saturday, August 15, 2026 5:07AM Stream Southern California's News Leader and Original Shows 24/7 MID-WILSHIRE, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A routine dog walk took a serious turn when a couple says a car jumped the curb to try and hit them and their dog after a verbal exchange in the Mid-Wilshire area --the frightening encounter was caught on camera.

The man pulled his dachshund, Olive, out of the way while his fiancé ran for safety.

"That's when he turned his car on us and drove, accelerated, drove up onto the curb. I pulled Olive to my left and like the car just barely missed me," he said.

"I just run straight on the grass as far back as I can, I look back and I see his car like right behind me," she said.

The mad dash for safety started on the outskirts of Harold A. Henry Park Wednesday evening. The couple says they motioned for the driver of an orange car to go ahead at the stop sign so they could cross the street.

"We weren't paying attention because we were on the phone and then I hear him yell 'what you don't speak effing English?'" the man's fiancé added.

That's when the orange car drove straight towards the couple. An Uber driver caught the moment on dashcam video.

The car goes out of frame as it jumps the curb and drives into the park, but the back camera captures the car driving off the grass and back onto the street.

"Run, run, run -- and then he takes his car and turns back around, drives down the park," she said. "And then flips back around and yells at us 'bet your effing scared now huh?'"

"It happened in a matter of seconds, but it's one of the craziest things that happened to us," he added.

The park was full of bystanders and their dogs at the time of the incident. Sequoia Hugee clutched her dog, Cookie, as she recounted what she saw.

"I just see them running towards the park and the car came up on the curve like very crazy and then he drove away," Hugee said.

The couple reported the incident to the Los Angeles Police Department and told Eyewitness News that it's scary knowing the driver is still out there and hope he takes accountability for his actions.
