For more than an inning of Monday's game between the Baltimore Orioles and Detroit Tigers , fans were riveted not by the play on the field but by the exploits of a furry interloper. A black squirrel made Comerica Park his playground, totally unbothered by the players trying to hold an MLB game around him.
After letting the rodent run rampant, the grounds crew finally got involved in the middle of the seventh inning. Only by that time, it was almost too late. Despite what looked like a dozen people joining the effort, the squirrel evaded capture for another few minutes before he was finally wrangled in a towel and taken away.

Fortunately for the squirrel, it didn't miss much after being removed. His hometown team -- we assume he's a Tigers fan -- fell 8-5, dropping its third straight game.
At this rate, it's getting harder and harder to see Detroit keeping ace Tarik Skubal past the Aug. 3 trade deadline. The Tigers entered Tuesday in fourth place in the AL Central and barely hanging on in the AL Wild Card picture, where they were four games behind the Cleveland Guardians for the final wild card berth.
