The Philadelphia Phillies are going to need to address their offense over the 2026-2027 offseason. Alec Bohm and Luis Arraez will be free agents, opening up an infield spot assuming Bryce Harper returns to first base.
While they could look to add a third baseman or shortstop, the Phillies could also look to sign a second baseman and move Bryson Stott to third base full-time. They've already used this plan to add Arraez, so it'd hardly be surprising if they did so in free agency.
Kerry Miller of Bleacher Report is predicting the Phillies will use such an infield plan to sign a second baseman. But, instead of re-signing Arraez, Miller is predicting the Phillies sign New York Yankees 2B Jazz Chisholm Jr. to a six-year, $126 million contract.

"However, the Phillies arguably make the most sense here," Miller writes on Chisholm's free agency. "Prediction: 6 years, $126M with the Philadelphia Phillies."
Miller notes that the Phillies "make the most sense" to add Chisholm in free agency. There's a good reason for such a claim.
Bohm and Arraez are hitting free agency, and while they could bring one back, the Phillies might opt for a more robust power-hitter like Chisholm over Arraez. Bohm isn't really a long-term option for this club based on his 2026 struggles.
During the 2025 season with the Yankees, Chisholm had an .813 OPS with a .242 batting average and 31 home runs with 80 RBIs, 15 doubles, one triple, and 75 runs scored with 4.1 bWAR in 130 games.

He has regressed a bit this season, however, posting 1.0 bWR in 108 games with a .689 OPS and .215 batting average. That doesn't exactly instill confidence in Chisholm being a good option in free agency.
But, if he could reach his potential with the Phillies as he did for the Yankees in 2025, then the Phillies could have a much better offense than they did to begin the 2026 season.
Of course, Phillies fans might want to keep Arraez, which is a totally understandable opinion. He's been a fun pickup for Philadelphia, but Arraez's 2026 season might be a bit of a fluke defensively, as he was a bad defender in 2024 and 2025.
If the Phillies believe in his defensive turnaround, Arraez would be a better fit and worth signing to a long-term deal after the 2026 MLB season. But, Chisholm wouldn't be a bad second option, especially at $126M over six years, which isn't too expensive.
