Jahmyr Gibbs officially returned to Detroit Lions training camp, and his head coach, Dan Campbell, expressed how it felt to have his star player getting some necessary practice time.
"I'm excited about that. I've said all along, I mean, Brad and I love this kid. He's one of us, and he fits what we do perfectly, and who does he not fit? I mean this kid's something else. So it's good to have him back," Campbell said .
Earlier this week, Gibbs signed a new contract extension, making him the highest-paid running back in the NFL . According to ESPN , Gibbs signed a three-year, $67.5 million deal, which could be worth up to $75.75 million.
"He does everything," Campbell told NFL Network's Stacey Dales and Brian Baldinger. "He's tough, he'll protect, he's smart, he's versatile. He's got vision as a runner. He's patient. He's obviously got long speed, you know? So he breaks out in the open; he can take it the distance."

Last season, Gibbs received his third-straight Pro Bowl selection. He was seventh in the league with 1,223 rushing yards and fourth with 13 touchdowns on 243 carries. He also had 616 receiving yards and five touchdowns on 77 receptions.
According to Campbell, that's something they've been working on with Gibbs at camp, making him an even more dangerous option on offense.
"This kid's got a route tree now too," Campbell explained. "You can line him up at receiver, and we just started to teeter into that. There's a ton of meat on the bone for this guy."
For several seasons, Gibbs was part of a dynamic duo of running backs with David Montgomery on the Lions. However, the team traded Montgomery to the Houston Texans this offseason and signed Super Bowl-winning back Isiah Pacheco on a one-year, $1.81 million deal as the new backup.
With Gibbs' contract extension finally signed, having him back at practice is a great sign for the Lions as everyone becomes acclimated to new teammates and plays. The team failed to reach the postseason last year and will certainly look to improve upon that disappointment this coming season in what could once again be a competitive NFC North.
