Goff just ended his fourth consecutive 4,400-plus-yard passing season with six 4,000-yard seasons, which is impressive, during his eight years in the NFL.
Those are great numbers. There's no arguing it. But, since the Lions slipped from No. 1 in the NFC North to very last place last season, his quarterback ranking took a hit.
In a feature out from Bleacher Report, the publication names its full tally of the best quarterbacks in the NFL going into the 2026 season. "Big questions will be asked and answered," they state. "Is Patrick Mahomes still the top QB? Which up-and-coming young signal-callers have made an impression?"
One question is, "Does Jared Goff deserve a higher spot than his NFC North rivals?"
According to Bleacher Report, the answer is, "No."
Lions quarterback Jared Goff is behind Chicago Bears' Caleb Williams, Green Bay Packers' Jordan Love
Goff comes in at No. 16 on the list. That's behind Chicago Bears ' Caleb Williams at No. 13 and Green Bay Packers ' Jordan Love at No. 9.
Is it fair? Not necessarily. Goff has always been underrated. He's an extremely gifted quarterback, and that shouldn't make him feel bad. But, if he can get the Lions to the big game for the first time in franchise history, he'll jump to the top of the line.
In the piece, they note that Goff "excels within clean pockets that allow him to survey the field and find the open receiver."
Bleacher Report adds, "The Lions' starter has struggled in outdoor games and while playing in the elements. Also, pressure highlights his lack of mobility in the pocket. If consistently pressured, his process is rushed, leaving decision-making vulnerable. Goff is a very good starter with a capped ceiling."
Goff has actually gotten better with the outdoor games situation, and it helps that the Lions play in a dome, anyway. But, regardless, if Goff can improve on these little things in 2026, the Lions could really excel.
