FC Barcelona has rejected Paris Saint-Germain’s first bid for Ferran Torres according to Mundo Deportivo and MARCA, citing anonymous sources.
PSG’s first offer is a fixed $46 million (€40 million) for Ferran, and it has been knocked back because Barça is holding out for something bigger.
This comes despite the 26-year-old being in the last 11 months of his contract, which expires on June 30, 2027.
Ferran’s contractual situation is also probably what has inspired such a low ball bid.
This is the last summer that Barça can hope to cash in on the player it agreed to pay Manchester City $63 million (€55 million) for in late 2021.
In January, he’ll be free to negotiate with other clubs and then leave for nothing after the mentioned date.
It is also worth noting that Ferran’s stock has risen this summer. At the MetLife Stadium on July 19, he scored Spain’s only goal in a World Cup final win over Argentina and has been revelling in his new found fame through a number of media and public appearances in the United States.
As well as throwing the first pitch out at Yankee Stadium, Ferran also used interviews on American television to confirm that PSG is interested in him.
This angered Barça , but it has always stressed that it will not stand in the way if the Valencia native wants to leave and PSG comes up with a reasonable offer.
Elsewhere, Fabrizio Romano reported that both clubs are “closing in on a verbal agreement for Ferran Torres”.
“PSG sent official bid worth $57.7 million (€50 million) package to Barcelona, talks at final stages. French side see Ferran as an opportunity at that fee having one year left on his contract, otherwise [he would be] expected to cost €70/80m,” the Italian tweeted.
It is probably something around the €50 million that the two parties agree on in the end, and that wouldn’t represent bad business from Sporting Director Deco considering what remains on Ferran’s contract.
There’s pressure to bring a new striker to FC Barcelona, though, and the pursuit of Julian Alvarez at Atletico Madrid continues amid an insistence from his manager Diego Simeone that the Argentine is not for sale .
