The San Diego Padres placed right-hander Jeremiah Estrada on the 15-day injured list Wednesday, Aug. 26 with a right shoulder impingement.
For Estrada, it’s yet another setback in a season that has already seen him sidelined twice before with unrelated injuries. For the Padres, it’s an ill-timed setback with little more than a month remaining in the regular season.

The move, retroactive to Tuesday, came before San Diego’s series finale against the Pittsburgh Pirates, with the Padres trying to avoid a three-game sweep at Petco Park. Right-hander David Morgan was recalled from Triple-A El Paso to fill Estrada’s spot on the roster.
Estrada, 27, is 2-3 wityh a 3.48 ERA in 33 appearances this season. He was a workhorse in 2025, going 4-5 with a 3.45 ERA.

Estrada missed about three weeks in April because of right elbow tendinitis and was sidelined for nearly two months during the middle of the season with right knee inflammation. He returned from that injury on July 29.
The Padres did not provide a timetable for Estrada’s return or additional details about the severity of his shoulder problem.
Estrada has been an important part of a San Diego bullpen that ranks among the better units in the majors. His absence adds pressure to a relief corps that has already been heavily used during the Padres’ home series against the Pittsburgh Pirates series.

San Diego lost the first two games, including a 1-0 defeat Tuesday when Pittsburgh’s Oneil Cruz hit a ninth-inning homer off Mason Miller. Monday, Estrada allowed the winning run to score in the 12th inning. The Padres entered the series finale Wednesday with a half-game lead over the National League West rival Arizona Diamondbacks for the league’s final wild-card berth.
Miller and left-hander Adrian Morejon have been among San Diego’s most dependable late-inning options, but both had been used extensively heading into Wednesday’s series finale.
Morgan, a 26-year-old right-hander, is 2-0 with a 4.50 ERA in 18 games out of the Padres’ bullpen this season.
