Green Bay Packers star running back Josh Jacobs missed his first practice of training camp on Thursday, leaving backup Marshawn Lloyd to handle the bulk of first-team carries. Lloyd took full advantage of the opportunity, making several splash plays, including a touchdown catch from quarterback Jordan Love. He capped it off with a backflip in the end zone — a celebration that, given his injury history, had head coach Matt LaFleur a little nervous. All in all, though, it was a strong practice session, and Lloyd has now participated in more camp reps this summer than he did all of last season due to injury.
Before practice kicked off Thursday, Lloyd had already earned high praise from Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst. "Got a long way to go, but when he's out there, he's making plays and he's turning heads," Gutekunst said . "He always kind of has done that since he's been here, when he's been able to be out there. So yeah, excited for where he's going."

Lloyd was the Packers' third-round pick (No. 88 overall) out of USC in the 2024 NFL Draft, but injuries derailed his rookie season, limiting him to a single game. Last season was supposed to be his breakout, but he was again sidelined by a string of injuries — including multiple hamstring strains, a groin injury, appendicitis, and ankle issues — that kept him out for the entire 2025 season. Now, though, he's fully healthy and appears ready to show Packers fans what they've been waiting two years to see.
A 5-foot-9, 220-pound back, Lloyd carried plenty of hype coming out of college. In his final season with the Trojans, he ran for 820 yards and nine touchdowns on 116 carries, averaging 7.1 yards per carry, while adding 232 receiving yards on 13 catches for a 17.8-yard average per reception. His physical running style became even more intriguing after he posted a 4.46-second 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine , flashing the big-play potential that made him a name to watch entering the league.
With just one year remaining on his contract after the 2026 season, many expect Lloyd to play a bigger role this year and give the Packers a strong one-two punch alongside Jacobs.
