“It’s about the team” – Alonso avoids criticising unpopular player who struggled again
Xabi Alonso was put on the spot about his goalkeeper today after Robert Sanchez made two errors against Fulham.

Xabi Alonso had a pretty easy ride in his first post-match Premier League press conference – his team came out and won an exciting game against Fulham, scoring some great goals and playing some great football.
Alonso blames team defending ahead of Sanchez for goals

It wasn’t all good news though. Once again we saw mistakes from Robert Sanchez that very nearly undid all that superb attacking play. Alonso was asked for his thoughts on his keeper.
“It’s about the team, it’s not about the individual. As I said before, we can adjust a few things,” Alonso said.
“The first goal, we can do better to defend, we can do better to avoid, but it’s part of the game. We need to accept and to learn from them, and this is going to be a process.”
It’s very similar to what Alonso said to TV cameras, and we didn’t expect him to throw his player under the bus. But it’s a bit of a dodge – of course we can defend those chances better, but ultimately there are always going to be shots on goal, and if you don’t have a keeper you can rely on to stop them, you won’t get very far.

Cole Palmer was superb tonight, and he was in such a good move he had a joke with a Sky reporter at full time.
