See the full story · 2 sourcesConfronted with another lefty starter on Tuesday night at Chicago, the Yankees at least have some recent positive history against the White Sox 's Anthony Kay.
Back on June 17, the Yankees chased Kay after four innings, scoring four runs against him on six hits during a 10-5 victory at Yankee Stadium.
Of course, two of those hits came from Cody Bellinger (home run, double) who is currently on the injured list for roughly the next four-to-six weeks, due to a strained left hamstring.
Amed Rosario (double), Anthony Volpe (RBI triple), Ben Rice (single, walk) and Ali Sanchez (RBI single) also produced Yankee hits off Kay (7-4, 4.21) last time out.
And during Monday night's 9-5 Yanks' win at Chicago's Rate Field, Sanchez clubbed his first MLB home run in his 184th MLB plate appearance, six years after breaking into the big leagues with the 2020 Mets.
Yankees' Tuesday night starter Gerrit Cole (3-5, 3.92) is making is 12th start of the year, on one extra day of rest.
Cole is coming off a seven-inning start last Wednesday against the Pirates, with 11 strikeouts and zero walks. But a couple of home runs hurt him in a 5-3 Pittsburgh win.
Also on Tuesday, the Yankees have signed veteran right-handed hitting catcher Christian Bethancourt to a minor league contract. Bethancourt, 34, last played in the majors with the 2024 Cubs.
Of note, Austin Wells will catch Cole on Tuesday night and veteran Paul Goldschmidt is back atop the order, with Max Schuemann - who went 0-for-5 as Monday's leadoff hitter - playing left field again and dropped to eighth.
Here is the Yankees' Tuesday night lineup at Chicago:
Paul Goldschmidt, 1B
Ben Rice, DH
Amed Rosario, 3B
Jasson Dominguez, RF
Trent Grisham, CF
Anthony Volpe, SS
Jazz Chisholm Jr., 2B
Max Schuemann, LF
Austin Wells, C
