Parker Wynk suffered a spinal cord injury while recovering a fumble against St. Henry on Friday, as previously reported .
Now his community is leaning on faith to carry them all through his recovery.
Celina Football coach Brennan Bader said that Wynk is fueled by football and faith.
“He’s any coach’s dream as far as what he can do on the field, but the person he is off of it just his character and integrity he checks all of those boxes,” he said.
Parker collided with another player during Celina’s season opener against St. Henry.
“All we can do is go out and play the second half,” said Bader. “And that second half was one of the most special things I’ve been a part of. On the field or off.”
News Center 7’s Kylie Bridgeman texted his mom on Saturday. She said that Parker is alert, talking, and his mobility continues to improve.
His coach said that their team is blessed to call Parker one of their own.
“He’s going to find a way to help us,” said Coach Bader. “He’ll watch some film and give his input. He’s always with us. Hopefully these guys will play like he plays.”
Pastor Craig Flack shared during the service that Parker attended church weekly. He also led his teammates in prayer before games and is a young man who believes deeply.
Pastor Flack has one wish in all of this.
“That other people who are going through something might hear the name of Jesus Christ, a God who is present, a god who is a healer, a god who is with us even in the valley, and that is the best news you can hear,” he said.
Having faith that he will heal, Parker had one question from his hospital bed: did the Bulldogs win?
Yes, they did. Celina beat St. Henry, 38-35.
Parker’s teammates told Bridgeman that they would continue to play for him, keeping faith game after game.
