605 Freeway closed for hours in City of Industry due to hazmat spill; NB lanes reopened Friday, August 21, 2026 9:31PM CITY OF INDUSTRY, Calif. (KABC) -- A hazardous substance leaking from a trailer on Friday prompted the hourslong shutdown of all lanes on the 605 Freeway in the City of Industry, authorities said.
About 9:45 a.m., the California Highway Patrol was advised of the leak on the southbound side of the freeway just north of the 60 Freeway.
Officers determined the incident involved a hazardous material and initially shut down one, then two lanes of the freeway, but as of about 1:30 p.m., all lanes of the freeway were shut down in both directions, according to the CHP.
"CHP officers and additional personnel are on scene working diligently to open the roadway as soon as possible," according to CHP Officer Aaron Zamarron.
The northbound lanes were reopened shortly before 2:30 p.m., but the southbound side remained closed.
Zamarron encouraged anyone commuting through the area to consider the 10, 60, 5 and 710 freeways as alternative routes.
