The veteran and former Heisman Trophy winner has been the favorite before and during camp, but could either be the option beyond 2026?
The team had Sam Darnold under contract and let him walk, so they have shown they need to be really wowed to keep a quarterback around. All of this leads us to a piece recently posted by Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox in which he worked on landing spots for another veteran in Baker Mayfield.
One of those landing spots was the Minnesota Vikings, which gets the creative blood flowing.
Knox writes, "In a vacuum, the Minnesota Vikings would provide the perfect landing spot for Mayfield. They have a quarterback-friendly head coach in Kevin O'Connell, and they have a loaded receiving corps led by Justin Jefferson, Jordan Addison, and T.J. Hockenson. . .Mayfield could provide the quarterback stability that Minnesota had two years ago during Darnold's lone season with the club. The Vikings ranked ninth in scoring offense that season and finished with an impressive 14-3 record. The difference is that Mayfield has already established himself in the NFL and would almost certainly join Minnesota on a long-term deal instead of the one-year "prove-it" contract that Darnold signed in 2024."
The Bucs seem keen on keeping Baker Mayfield, but in the NFL, anything can happen. If he were to leave, the Vikings would make a world of sense and could be the best roster he has ever been a part of if he arrived.
