Last season, the Cannons dropped both of their Homecoming Weekend games and missed the playoffs as a result. This year, they walked into Harvard Stadium with a chance to rewrite that story, securing their spot in the postseason in front of their home crowd.
Boston opened with a 14-12 overtime thriller over the Maryland Whipsnakes on Friday, capped by Marcus Holman’s career-high sixth two-pointer of the season.
The team returned Saturday and completed the sweep with a 12-9 win over the California Redwoods. Rookie Andrew McMeekin continued to dominate at the faceoff stripe, strengthening his case for Faceoff Specialist of the Year. – Noel D’Amico
California Redwoods: Momentum stalls in loss to Cannons
One week after setting a PLL scoring record with 21 scores, the Redwoods did a complete 180 and turned the ball over 21 times in their loss to the Cannons.
A scoreless second quarter had California chasing the game. It showed fight in the second half, closing the deficit to two scores, but the Cannons seemed to always have a response.
The Redwoods have lost four of their past five games, but they are still firmly in the playoff picture. Their focus is on playing better in this Sunday’s regular-season finale against Denver, making the playoffs and peaking at the right time. – Phil Shore
Carolina Chaos: Loss to Archers all but eliminates Chaos
Carolina closed out its 2026 regular season with a 13-12 loss to the Utah Archers on Friday night, leaving its playoff hopes hanging by a thread.
Ross Scott delivered a season-best five points (3G, 2A), while rookies Teddy Malone (3G, 1A) and Chad Palumbo (2G, 1A) helped keep Carolina within striking distance late – but the Chaos could not complete the comeback.
The loss brought Carolina’s regular-season campaign to a disappointing close and pushed the team on the brink of elimination in the first year of head coach Steven Brooks’ tenure. The Chaos need the Outlaws to beat the Redwoods by double digits to have any hope of advancing. – Miles Jordan
Denver Outlaws: McElroy and O’Neill take Denver to playoffs
It was a harrowing few weeks, but the Outlaws are officially playoff-bound after a 14-9 win over the New York Atlas . The Outlaws turned to goalie Owen McElroy from the start for the first time this season, and he turned in a career-high 19 saves at 70.7%.
Brennan O’Neill continued his ascent as one of the game’s premier playmakers, notching a career-high four assists. Now Denver will play the rest and recovery game as they hope to have Pat Kavanagh , Jared Bernhardt and Ben Randall back for a run at a championship this fall. – Topher Adams
Maryland Whipsnakes: Whips need to figure out how to close games. And fast
The Whipsnakes have thrown away their last two games . They led by two goals and were a man-up with a minute remaining on Friday before losing 14-12 to the Boston Cannons. That simply can’t happen if they want to contend in the Eastern Conference.
Somebody on the Whips’ offense needs to be an alpha and establish himself as a go-to option late in games. Maryland has plenty of options with a dodger like Aidan Carroll , a veteran like Rob Pannell and a steady rookie like Joey Spallina . Yet, the question remains, who’s going to make a play when the Whips need it the most? – Zak Wolf
New York Atlas: Liam Entenmann pulled as Atlas lose fifth straight
The tough season continued for the Atlas, and so did their trend of starting games slowly. The bigger note was Liam Entenmann being pulled for the first time this season. The two-time All-Star did not record his first save until New York had fallen behind 10-1 in the second quarter. Will Mark played the second half and posted a 70% save percentage, helping spark a late comeback bid.
All year, head coach Mike Pressler has said there is “a lot of pride in that locker room.” New York showed that, battling back to within four, but ultimately lost its fifth straight. – Jared Valluzzi
Utah Archers: Archers strengthen playoff position with Schreiber return possible
The Archers clinched their spot in the playoffs and a 99.99% chance of being the No. 1 seed in the West by beating the Chaos on Friday night.
Utah is on the verge of a bye to a home semifinal, and with a month off before that game, that also means the club could welcome team captain and three-time MVP Tom Schreiber back from injury the next time it takes the field. Schreiber, who is on injured reserve after having double knee surgery in the fall, practiced for the first time this season in Boston. – Zach Carey
