Spain's league chief Javier Tebas has hit out at Gianni Infantino again after the FIFA president had dismissed all criticism on himself and the World Cup.
In a post on X, Tebas named Infantino's statement from Monday on Instagram "pathetic" and called for more transparency at the world governing body.
Infantino had said that the tournament in the United States, Mexico and Canada was "the most outstanding World Cup" which "celebrated humanity at its best."
He accused critics of "spreading hate and false rumours" and said: "Sorry that the matches are now over and sorry that you missed all that joy and togetherness. Sorry that you were so consumed by hate and criticism that you missed it all."
Tebas said that "no one disputes that football is emotion and unity.
"But transparency, good governance, and accountability are never hate, they are an obligation. Strong institutions do not discredit those who ask questions, they answer the questions," he said.
Tebas, who has in the past called on Infantino to resign, wondered why Infantino had made the post in the first place.
"When a leader dedicates an entire message to disqualifying those who exercise legitimate scrutiny, it's inevitable to wonder ... why precisely now? Is there something that explains such a defensive tone? Is something happening that we don't know about?" Tebas asked.
