POLITICS Trump casts mail ballot again in Florida despite efforts to restrict mail voting The White House said Trump has not been to Florida in months.
Watch ABC News live news stream and get 24/7 latest, breaking news coverage, and live video. Despite his lengthy history of railing against mail-in voting, President Donald Trump voted by mail in Florida’s primary election being held Tuesday -- the second time voting by mail in the state this year.
"As everyone knows, the President is a resident of Palm Beach and participates in Florida elections, but he obviously primarily lives at the White House in Washington, D.C. This is a non-story," White House spokeswoman Olivia Wales said in response to ABC News' request for comment.
"As President Trump has said, the SAVE America Act has commonsense exceptions for Americans to use mail-in ballots for illness, disability, military, or travel -- but universal mail-in voting should not be allowed because it's highly susceptible to fraud," the statement also read.
The Safeguard American Voter Eligibility -- or the SAVE America Act -- also requires voter ID at the ballot box and proof of citizenship to register.
The White House's statement is identical to the statement the White House provided to ABC News in March when the president cast a mail ballot in a Florida state house special election.
Politico reported on Monday that voting records, which appear to be private, show Trump requested a ballot in late July and returned it on Aug. 13. The Palm Beach County supervisor of elections told ABC News that the president's voter information is not being made public.
The White House also said Trump has not been to Florida in months.
This all comes as Trump continues to put pressure on Congress to pass the SAVE America Act, which would place new requirements and restrictions on mail–in voting. The president has long criticized mail-in voting as a form of cheating, calling them “crooked as hell” during an event last month.
An analysis from the Brookings Institution from November 2025 found that voter fraud is rare in voting by mail.
Trump has repeatedly called on senators to pass the SAVE America Act, insisting since March that he will not sign any legislation until it is sent to his desk. In a social media post on March 8, Trump wrote that it "supersedes everything else."
Earlier this month, about two dozen states and the District of Columbia urged the Supreme Court to reject the Trump administration's request to implement new mail-in voting restrictions, which the states have said could disenfranchise millions of voters ahead of the midterm elections.
Despite his yearslong criticism of the voting practice, the president defended his use of a mail-in ballot in March , saying he did so because he is the president.
"Yeah I did," Trump had said in March when asked about casting a mail-in ballot. "You know why? Because I'm president of the United States. And because of the fact that I'm president of the United States, I did a mail-in ballot for elections that took place in Florida, because I felt I should be here instead of being in the beautiful sunshine [...]”
Trump had also signed an executive order in March aimed at cracking down on mail-in voting.
The president previously voted by mail in the 2020 Florida presidential primary, after he switched his formal place of residence from New York to Florida in September 2019.
