Grand Theft Auto 6 may be around the corner, but don't count out Grand Theft Auto 5 just yet. Rockstar announced Tuesday that GTA 5 will soon receive a roleplay-focused update called nopixel V. It'll transform the base game into a multiplayer experience where fans can tell their own stories.
Coming up with your own ideas has always been possible, but nopixel adds bespoke roleplaying options to the mix. Rockstar is promising a reworked character customization system that will help players tell unique stories. The world is also upgraded: better visuals and smarter, more reactive NPCs. nopixel will offer more ways to make money, whether you want to play as a hardened criminal or a law-abiding citizen. The update introduces new areas, like a grand hotel-casino and a revamped version of Cypress Flats.
Those are the new bits, but Rockstar says there's a lot more to come. According to a Rockstar blog post, GTA 5 will eventually receive other improvements, such as a new PC game overlay, more events, and "expanded access" to nopixel.
The post reads, "Every player helps shape the city, and every relationship matters."
The closed beta for nopixel begins on Sept. 8 and will be available straight out of the Rockstar Games Launcher. "GTA Roleplay has never felt more alive, and there has never been a better time to tune in," Rockstar says.
There's still no official word on how GTA 6 will incorporate GTA Online's role-playing elements, or even when the game is coming to PC at all. Until the open-world sequel comes out, nopixel might be the closest thing fans can get to experiencing GTA 6' s in-depth NPC system .
