California Attorney General Rob Bonta announced Monday that the California Department of Justice is investigating the circumstances that led to a police officer fatally shooting an allegedly armed suspect on Friday in Fremont.
The shooting, which resulted in the death of one individual, happened at approximately 3:38 p.m. on July 24 at an assisted living facility on Walnut Avenue, according to the Fremont Police Department.
Following notification of the incident, the DOJ’s California Police Shooting Investigation Team initiated an investigation in accordance with Assembly Bill 1506 mandates.
Upon completion, the investigation will be turned over to the DOJ’s Special Prosecutions Section within the Criminal Law Division for an independent review.
