Ludvig Åberg of Nocatee and J.T. Poston of St. Simons Island, Ga., lead a group of area players who qualified for the PGA Tour's FedEx Cup Playoffs by being among the top 70 on the final regular-season points list.
The playoffs begin on Aug. 13 at the TPC Southwind in Memphis. The top 50 after the tournament advance to the BMW Championship Aug. 20-23 at the Bellerive Country Club in St. Louis and the top 30 after that play in the Tour Championship Aug. 27-30 at the East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta.
Here are the First Coast and Golden Isles players in the playoffs ( FedEx Cup position in parentheses):
Ludvig Åberg (10), Nocatee: Season, 14-17 cuts, seven top-10s. Best FedEx Cup finish, tied for 21st in 2024.
J.T. Poston (30), St. Simons Island: Season, 13-19 cuts, two top-10s, one victory. Best FedEx Cup finish, 15th in 2021-22.

PGA Tour Studios airs playoff previews
PGA Tour Studios premiered "Tee Sheet" on Aug. 11, a conversation-based preview show that will focus on the storylines and drama of the FedEx Cup Playoffs that begin on Aug. 13.
The show will be streamed on the Tour's YouTube, FAST channels and X, with additional episodes timed to the BMW Championship and Tour Championship. Other shows will hit on Aug. 18 and Aug. 25.
The 30-minute show will feature discussion, player interviews and analysis as the panel debates key topics, breaks down the week’s biggest moments and helps viewers prepare for the FedEx St. Jude Championship, BMW Championship and Tour Championship.
Shane Bacon will anchor all three episodes, joined by Hally Leadbetter and Justin Ray. Cheyenne Woods will join the episodes of Aug. 18 and 25.
Champions Tour launches series
The PGA Tour Champions and Compliance Solutions are introducing a six-tournament late-season series that includes the Constellation Furyk & Friends Oct. 9-11 at the Hammock Beach Ocean Course.
The Sprint to St. Louis, presented by Compliance Solutions, will begin at the Sanford International Sept. 11-13, followed by the Pure Insurance Championship, Jefferson Lehigh Valley Classic, Furyk & Friends, SAS Championship and the first Charles Schwab Cup Playoffs event, the Stifel Charity Classic in St. Louis at the Norwood Hills Country Club.
The three highest players in Schwab Cup points for the first five events will be the finalists at the Stifel Charity Classic. The player with the best finish in that event will earn a $200,000 bonus.
The Sprint to St. Louis also will donate to charitable causes through the Folds of Honor, which helps provide educational scholarships to spouses and children of fallen or disabled military service members and first responders. One scholarship will be donated to a local recipient for each week the series is contested.
Webb Simpson gets second vice-captain gig
U.S. Presidents Cup captain Brandt Snedeker named 2018 Players champion Webb Simpson as the team's third vice-captain for the matches at Medinah Country Club’s Course No. 3 on Sept. 22-27. Simpson joins Jim Furyk of Jacksonville, the incoming U.S. Ryder Cup captain, and 2025 U.S. Ryder Cup Captain Keegan Bradley on Snedeker's staff, with one spot remaining.
Simpson will serve as a captain’s assistant for the second time. He was on Davis Love III's staff at the 2022 Presidents Cup at Quail Hollow Club in his hometown of Charlotte, North Carolina. Simpson was 5-3-2 as a player on three Presidents Cups in 2011, 2013 and 2019.
Simpson has won seven times on the PGA Tour, capped by the 2012 U.S. Open.
