See the full story · 2 sourcesThe Chicago Bears were back on the practice field at Halas Hall on Tuesday morning for the second padded workout of the summer.
The Bears kicked things up a notch on Day 6, where they had several live periods for the first time this summer. There was plenty of physicality and intensity on display, which even led to the first scuffle of training camp between two rookies. It was overall a rough outing for the offense on Tuesday, and the defense took advantage. There was a notable development in the left tackle battle, as well as a lot of 13 personnel throughout practice.
As far as attendance goes, cornerbacks Terell Smith and KC Eziomume weren't spotted at practice, as well as safety Coby Bryant, who suffered a knee injury on Monday and is expected to miss 8-10 weeks. While there was an injury scare with receiver Luther Burden III, it appears he's fine.
Here are some observations, from media members in attendance, following Tuesday's training camp practice:
Live football on second day of pads, more intensity
Top 3 Takeaways from padded practice #2: 1- Way more physical than yesterday. Devin Bush cracked Luther Burden at goal line in 2 minute. Dangerous play 2- Offense off. Multiple penalties, incompletions. Ball was sailing. 3- RB Salvon Ahmed flashed again. Intriguing RB option.
— Mark Carman (@thecarm) August 4, 2026 Offense had "sloppiest" practice so far this summer
To the naked eye, Practice 6 felt like the Bears' sloppiest offensive showing of camp to date. Easily. A failed end-of-game situation to end things. The morning struggles included: Pre-snap penalties. Misfired passes. Dropped balls. Rickety screen plays. QB1's feet getting…

Defense looks a step ahead today. Offense also has looked off more than the other practices I've been to. Timing is off. The energy, even with a live period today, still feels relatively low. I expect that to pick up from Thursday on as we get closer to preseason games.
— Greg Braggs Jr. (@GBraggsJr23) August 4, 2026 Bears offense fell just short in 2-minute drill
Bears got the ball with 54 seconds down 5 at their 47-yard line. After back-to-back false starts, Caleb Williams eventually converted a fourth down to Kalif Raymond. With 3 seconds left, his pass to Burden in the end zone fell incomplete. Devin Bush put quite the hit on Burden.

Situational drill for #Bears offense didn't go well. They failed to score down 28-23 with just under a minute left on their own 47. Luther Burden took a big hit on a collision in the end zone on the final play. It was not a live scenario. Burden is okay after the play but was…
— Bear Report (@BearReport) August 4, 2026 Luther Burden shaken up during two-minute drill, but he appears okay
Luther Burden III was shaken up on the final play in team period. With 3.2 seconds left on the clock, Caleb Williams tried to find a target in the end zone from beyond 30 yards out. Williams threw into a crowd and DB Anthony Johnson Jr. made contact with Burden in the back. He…

On the final play for the first team offense in a situation drill, Luther Burden took a bit on a collision in the end zone. Looked like Devin Bush hit him hard. Burden was slow to get up. Tyrique Stevenson walked with him to the sideline. Rome Odunze looked like he said…
— Zack Pearson (@Zack_Pearson) August 4, 2026 Lots of 13 personnel
Dennis Allen promised a heavy dose of 13 personnel today and 5 minutes into the first team period of camp, it’s clear the emphasis is gonna be running out of 13 today. Live tackling has commenced on the second day of pads.

A lot of 13 personnel in this practice. a few different receivers mixing in. #Bears
— Bear Report (@BearReport) August 4, 2026 Kyle Monangai returned to team drills
Kyle Monangai is working back into live contact with the Bears during team drills.
— Chris Emma (@CEmma670) August 4, 2026 Tyrique Stevenson picked off Caleb Williams
Tyrique Stevenson with the interception on Caleb Williams. Caleb's intended target was Colston Loveland down the left sidelines but there seems to be some miscommunication there. Looked like Colston was running a clear out and never turned around. Easy pick for Stevenson.
— Greg Braggs Jr. (@GBraggsJr23) August 4, 2026
Looked like some miscommunication between Caleb Williams and Colston Loveland. Williams was picked off by Tyrique Stevenson. Play looked funky all around. #Bears
— Zack Pearson (@Zack_Pearson) August 4, 2026 Braxton Jones worked with first team for second straight day
The #Bears wrapped up their second padded practice Tuesday that went two hours. Braxton Jones took all the first team snaps at LT and looked good for the most part. Bears couldn’t convert in late game situational. Terell Smith wasn’t at practice, Kyle Monangai took team snaps. pic.twitter.com/JV8zF5lavw
— Michal Dwojak (@mdwojak94) August 4, 2026 Cam Lewis worked at safety, Jaylon Jones at nickel
Cam Lewis worked with starters in place of Bryant for most part this morning. That gave Jaylon Jones more action at nickel cornerback. Key will be when veteran Elijah Hicks (shin) can return and, of course, Kyler Gordon.

During the Bears' first live team period, Grady Jarrett forced a holding call against Joe Thuney. Jarrett showed nice get-off and penetration on the rep.
— Nicholas Moreano (@NicholasMoreano) August 4, 2026 First scuffle of training camp between rookies
Rookie sixth-round pick Jordan van den Berg slammed Caden Barnett onto the ground after a snap with the third-team offense. First time we’ve seen tempers flare.
