Carolina Panthers WR Stands Out Early in Training Camp
The Carolina Panthers were one of the first teams to open up training camp this Summer, doing so last week. With the extra preseason game, the Panthers were able to get that extra week for practice.
So far, it's been a mixed bag for the Panthers in practice. It's early but they saw the defense dominate the first day before the offense rebounded for some nice plays since then. The biggest news has been the injury of Nic Scourton, who is done for the season after suffering a torn ACL on the first day.
But as we continue on in training camp, one young player just had his best day so far.
Wide receiver Xavier Legette enters a very important year in his NFL career and he's one of the biggest storylines for the team. With the emergence of Tetairoa McMillan in his rookie season, the Panthers need someone else to step up. That's where Legette can fill that role.
On Sunday, he was one of the standouts at practice, making some big plays. After practice, he earned the praise of his head coach Dave Canales.
"Just a great carryover from the spring," Canales told reporters of Legette. "At this point now, X knows the system. That's the cool part. As we bring free agents, as we bring rookies in—they see X—and he knows how to do it all.
"He looks fast, he looks powerful. He's having a great camp so far, as we get started. And I'm excited to see where he goes from here."
According to reports, Bryce Young and Legette converted on a nice play for a touchdown in one-on-one drills.
Xavier Legette was getting mugged and held throughout an go route and Bryce Young put it exactly where it needed to be in the end zone and 17 made a fantastic catch for a TD in 1 on 1. #Panthers
— Mike Kaye (@mike_e_kaye) July 26, 2026 Legette had a disappointing second season last year, catching just 35 passes for 363 receiving yards and three touchdowns. That was a dip in his production from his first season in the league.
A big showing in this offseason, including training camp, could go a long way for his confidence this season. If Legette can find a way to avoid another down year and standout this upcoming season, it will mean good things for the Panthers moving forward.
