It looks like Aaron Rodgers will soon be hanging up his football jersey.
While speaking to reporters on Tuesday, July 28 — as seen in video posted to social media — the Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback , 42, was asked about his decision to come back for his 22nd season in the NFL.
“I thought last year might be it, and then Mike got hired,” Rodgers told reporters, crediting his decision to wanting to play for newly appointed head coach Mike McCarthy .
“I talked to the wife, and she said, ‘You can do one more year and see if it works out,'” the Super Bowl champ explained. “And then it kind of all came together.”
On January 24, McCarthy, 62, was hired by the Steelers as their new head coach.
When Rodgers was asked if there would be any “debate” about coming back next year — alluding to the possibility of him changing his mind — he said, “No. Zero debate.”
Last season was Rodgers’ first as quarterback for the Steelers. He was previously with the New York Jets and spent the majority of his time in the NFL playing for the Green Bay Packers.

As for his wife, whom he married sometime in 2025, very little details about her exist. Though Rodgers confirmed he was married last year, his wife’s identity remains unknown.
The pro football player spoke briefly about his wife — and how he strives to stay out of the spotlight — earlier this year during his appearance on the March 4 episode of The Pat McAfee Show .
During the episode, host Pat McAfee pointed out that there has been a “lot of conversation and conjecture” about Rodgers’ relationship with his wife.
Rodgers told McAfee that the “obsession” with his personal life and relationship is “bizarre,” adding that he’s allegedly been stalked on numerous occasions.
He claimed that some members of the press even “had a bounty on getting a picture of my wife .”
“I understand the attention that comes with somebody who’s accomplished what I’ve accomplished,” Rogers said. “In no way am I making this a ‘woe is me’ [situation], but when it comes to your personal safety — and now it’s not just me, it’s me and her — it’s really…bizarre.”
He revealed that they met in 2017 and knew “there was something crazy special about this and I wanted to be with her,” adding: “She would make funny comments, like, ‘I would never live in Green Bay’ and ‘I don’t want to be a player’s wife.’ She not a public person .”
