The Carolina Panthers' backfield can't seem to catch a break on the injury front. After Jonathon Brooks suffered a re-tear of his right ACL during the 2024 season, the same injury he suffered in 2023 at Texas, it's led to a pause in the hype surrounding the team's former second-round pick. However, he's been fully cleared ahead of the 2026 season, and on Thursday, the Panthers were dealt some bad news about Brooks' backfield mate, Chuba Hubbard.
As ESPN's Mike Kaye first reported, Panthers head coach Dave Canales revealed that Hubbard suffered a hamstring injury and will now be week-to-week moving forward.
#Panthers RB Chuba Hubbard has a hamstring injury. He’s week to week, per Dave Canales.
— Mike Kaye (@mike_e_kaye) August 13, 2026 Obviously, the good news is that Hubbard's injury doesn't sound too serious if he's week-to-week. However, hamstring injuries can be nagging, especially in the NFL, where the risk of re-injury is high if a player isn't 100% upon return.
The news of Hubbard's injury also brings another topic to the table: Jonathon Brooks' immediate fantasy football outlook. That could be a significant storyline as the Panthers head into preseason play and get ready for Week.
