See the full story · 1 sourcesThe full pads came on as the Cleveland Browns took the field for a pivotal practice on Day 10 of training camp. When the final whistle blew, it was one of the most competitive days of practice the Browns have had in several years, and it came with a pretty notable plot twist at the QB position.

Day 10 Headlines
Quarterbacks
Saturday took an interesting turn when Deshaun Watson trotted out with the first-team offense for the first round of team drills. Todd Monken had said Watson may work in with the ones during 7-on-7 work, so his appearance during 11-on-11s was a bit surprising. What really caused a stir, though, was when Watson proceeded to take the first team reps for the entirety of practice.
He made the most of it too, putting together a strong performance throwing the football for a second consecutive day, and the third day out of four. He delivered a near perfect 7-on-7 session, where just one pass hit the ground. He also put together a successful two-minute drive late in practice, capped off by a 13-yard back-shoulder fade TD pass to Denzel Boston.

— 𝚂𝚙𝚎𝚗𝚌𝚎𝚛 𝙶𝚎𝚛𝚖𝚊𝚗 (@Spencito_) August 8, 2026 The official word from the team was that Monken wanted to see Watson with certain personnel groupings on Saturday, but Monken will have some deeper explaining to do come Monday.
The change in the rotation saw Shedeur Sanders' snaps take a notable hit, as he was sharing reps with Dillon Gabriel throughout practice. He still found plenty of success with the reps he did get.
He was solid in the first 11-on-11 session, going three-for-three on completions. He went 5-for-5 in 7-on-7s, mostly taking what the defense was giving him. His best throw of the day came on a dig to Cedric Tillman during an 11-on-11 session midway through practice. His two-minute drive fell short of points, though.
Dillon Gabriel worked in three times between the 11-on-11s and 7-on-7s and attempted just 12 passes on the day. In general, Saturday was one of his sloppiest days of camp.
O-Line Roulette
Tytus Howard left practice fairly early on, which paved the way for rookie Austin Barber to get some run with the first-team offense. The first unit primarily consisted of:
Barber at RT, KT Leveston at RG, Elgton Jenkins at C, Zion Johnson at LG and Spencer Fano at LT.
Per usual, there is always some shuffling, but the second-team o-line was made up of the following guys most of the time.
Tyre Phillips at RT, Jack Conley at RG, Luke Wypler at C, Jeremiah Byers at LG and Dawand Jones at LT.
Let's Get Physical
Saturday was the most physical and competitive practice I've experienced since joining the beat in 2023. That's not hyperbole. There were wins for the offense. There were wins for the defense. There were several fights, including a main card showdown between Spencer Fano and Jared Verse that saw the latter rip off the former's helmet and the two go to the ground wrestling with each other.
Don't worry, they shook hands and made up after practice, but in the heat of the moment, they brought some real juice to practice, which is what this time of year is all about. The competition was on another level. It was good to see.

Of course, TE Joe Royer is absent for personal reasons.
Players
not practicing in practice included: LB Carson Schwesinger, CB Damarri Mathis, CB
Myles Bryant, FB Michael Burton, DT Kalia Davis, DT Mike Hall Jr., DT
Sam Kamara, T Elijah Chatman, T Izavion Miller, G Zak Zinter and C
Parker Brailsford.
A number of those guys were on the field as spectators. Also a new player was M.I.A. in rookie LB Justin Jefferson. Also, as mentioned, Tytus Howard left practice with a trainer. So did DT Logan Fano.
Play of the Day
If you were worried about KC Concepcion's drops in college, well, he's proving those are a thing of the past at camp. Day 11 delivered what was arguably his best catch of camp. The reception came during the fourth round of 11-on-11s, as Watson threw a dart over the middle of the field, just over Myles Harden's head in coverage. It was a really nice throw and an even better catch.

As camp has progressed, some questions arose over whether or not Spencer Fano would have to move to a different spot on the o-line, particularly as he struggled at times against Jared Verse. Saturday was a grant statement from the rookie.
Fano appeared to keep Verse in check for most of the day, so much so that things boiled over into the aforementioned fight. The smack talk between the two was real for the rest of practice, including Fano dancing in Verse's face after the offense drew an offside during an o-line vs. d-line drill to end practice.
Did Verse suddenly awaken a sleeping giant? We'll see.
Quote of the Day
It only seems fitting that on the day Monken changed up the order in terms of the QB reps, that his quote before practice hinting at Watson taking just one series with the ones is our quote of the day.
"Might end up with a seven-on-seven, might end up where Deshaun (Watson) gets one of those, that’s what we’ve been doing, but Shedeur will take the majority of the one reps today."
What's Next?
Sunday is an off day before they return to the practice field on Monday for Day 11. That session is closed to the public.
