In a statement following the deadly attack, Wilson said the city was grieving with the families who lost loved ones and those who were injured.
“Impacted families are living through the worst moment of their lives, and an entire community is trying to understand how a gathering built around culture, connection, and joy ended in gunfire,” Wilson said in the statement.
She added: “No one should have to weigh the risk of being shot before attending an event, gathering with friends, or experiencing their city.”
The Seattle mayor called on those who have been emotionally or mentally impacted by the shooting to reach out to mental health crisis centers.
Wilson vowed full transparency about what happened in the coming days and thanked first responders for their quick intervention.
