Jackson Koivun being put in the same group as Keegan Bradley and Wyndham Clark for the opening two rounds of the Rocket Classic feels very intentional.
Everyone is talking about Koivun right now following his first ever PGA Tour victory at last week’s 3M Open in Minnesota.
The 21-year-old looked so comfortable at TPC Twin Cities, even with Scottie Scheffler chasing him down, that it is no surprise that many have been calling for Koivun to receive a pick for the Presidents Cup.
Why Jackson Koivun’s group for the first two rounds of the Rocket Classic seems significant
This year’s Presidents Cup should certainly help Jim Furyk as he prepares for the 2027 Ryder Cup at Adare Manor, and getting someone such as Jackson Koivun in the fold at Medinah appears to make a lot of sense.
On the other hand, some will argue that Brandt Snedeker simply has to pick the best team to win against the Internationals. And he may decide that picking Koivun is too much of a risk.
But it certainly appears that he is on the captain’s radar, particularly after being put in the same group as Keegan Bradley and Wyndham Clark at Detroit Golf Club.

Bradley is one of Snedeker’s vice-captains, while Clark will almost certainly be on the team following his US Open victory in June.
Bradley and Clark also teamed up for two of the sessions at the 2024 Presidents Cup. So they presumably have a good relationship.
It should be noted that Luke Donald played alongside Ludvig Aberg at the 2023 Rocket Classic just months before the Swede was selected for his Ryder Cup team.
The problem Keegan Bradley will have with following Jackson Koivun at Detroit Golf Club
You would certainly imagine that Snedeker will be reaching out to Bradley and Clark for feedback after playing alongside Koivun on Thursday and Friday in Michigan.
However, it is surely fair to say that Bradley’s scouting report will be nowhere near as thorough as Donald’s was with Aberg three years ago.
Koivun moved up to 70th in the FedEx Cup standings with his win at the 3M Open. Of course, it is the top 70 who make it through to the playoffs.
There are just two events remaining of the regular season, with the Rocket Classic the penultimate tournament.
Bradley currently finds himself 76th in the standings. So he has got plenty of work to do if he wants to be playing in Memphis next month.
His primary focus will surely be on his own performance, rather than seeing what Koivun is made of.
