FC Köln have loaned Bosnia and Herzegovina international Jusuf Gazibegović to Polish top-flight club Widzew Łódź for the coming season. The Ekstraklasa outfit confirmed that the agreement also contains an option to purchase the 25-year-old permanently. Widzew sporting director Artur Płatek emphasized that Gazibegović has not been signed merely to provide squad depth and is expected to compete for a prominent role.
Köln managing director Thomas Kessler – in a statement released on the Bundesliga outfit’s website – also confirmed that the defender had been informed at an early stage that he no longer featured in the club’s Bundesliga plans. The loan therefore provides Gazibegović with another opportunity to secure regular playing time following a disappointing spell in the cathedral city.
Köln originally signed Gazibegović from Sturm Graz as their first new arrival after the expiration of the club’s transfer ban. The right-back made 11 appearances during Köln’s 2024/25 2. Bundesliga promotion campaign, but subsequently lost his place to Sebastian Sebulonsen. Gazibegović managed only one 22-minute Bundesliga appearance before returning to Sturm on loan during the January 2026 transfer window.
His second departure from Köln now appears considerably more definitive. While Gazibegović expressed disappointment over his lack of opportunities, he also welcomed the chance to begin a new chapter in Poland.
Köln preparing another loan departure
Teenage striker Fynn Schenten is reportedly scheduled to undergo a medical with Dutch second-tier club Roda JC Kerkrade on Monday. Final details must still be clarified, but the 18-year-old is expected to join Roda on loan without a purchase option.
Köln have rejected requests to include such a clause because they continue to view Schenten as a long-term first-team prospect. The forward signed a professional contract through 2030 in January and has already made seven Bundesliga appearances.
The proposed loan should provide Schenten with regular senior football before he returns to make another attempt at establishing himself in Köln’s attack.
