See the full story · 1 sourcesAfter former Washington Huskies star defensive tackle Vita Vea requested a trade from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Tuesday, suitors from across the NFL emerged for the 31-year-old defensive tackle.
As he continues to search for a new contract, since he's currently in the last season of a four-year, $71 million deal, Vea is reportedly looking to return to his home state of California, or play for the Las Vegas Raiders, according to The Athletic's Ted Nguyen , and the Los Angeles Rams could be a top suitor for his services.
Even after trading for two-time Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett to upgrade along the defensive line, while superstar Aaron Donald is rumored to be mulling coming out of retirement as Los Angeles gears up for a Super Bowl or bust season, general manager Les Snead has shown no fear in dealing for proven commodities.

— Up & Adams (@UpAndAdamsShow) July 27, 2026 Since the day he was drafted, Vea has been considered one of the NFL's best run defenders and has compiled 256 tackles, 48 for loss, with 35 sacks, 3 forced fumbles, and 3 fumble recoveries. Even if Donald doesn't return, with Garrett and Byron Young on the edge, along with Braden Fiske in the middle, Los Angeles would arguably field the league's best defensive line.
While the Rams would have to do some restructuring of the salary cap to make an extension work, with just over $15 million available for the 2026 season, Snead has made some bold moves to try to capitalize on his team's Super Bowl window.
If Vea does wind up with the Rams, he'd join forces with former UW head coach and defensive coordinator Jimmy Lake, and another one of Washington's brightest stars in the league, cornerback Trent McDuffie, whom Snead made the highest-paid player at his position after dealing a first-round pick for him earlier in the offseason.
