ZZ Top’s Biggest Hits on the Hot 100 & Billboard 200

“ ZZ Top really went into mid-’80s commercial overdrive, thanks largely to the advent of MTV — a format not often charitable to the AOR rockers of yesteryear, but one that ZZ Top embraced with particular élan, becoming music video icons as the mystical hairy dudes with the fuzzy guitars, the cool car and the hot chicks,” wrote Billboard ’s Andrew Unterberger in tribute to the band’s drummer of 56 years, Frank Beard, who died Aug. 17.

Beard’s death follows that of the band’s bassist Dusty Hill in July 2021. For more than a half-century, Hill, Beard and lead vocalist Billy Gibbons, 76, powered ZZ Top to elite prominence and chart achievements on the Billboard Hot 100 , the Billboard 200 and rock rankings.
