Ben Simmons is working his way back to the NBA after taking the entirety of the 2025-26 season off as he aims to recover fully from the back problems that have plagued him since 2021. The former Philadelphia 76ers star is even paying out of pocket to join the Australia national team’s camp in Melbourne which starts tomorrow, and this is where he could show off his renewed health.
To that end, some teams are already expressing interest in signing Simmons in free agency. In fact, Marc J. Spears of Andscape reported that one team from the Western Conference has already offered the 30-year-old point forward a training camp invite. It looks as though Simmons is at least looking for a veteran minimum contract that’s guaranteed for the 2026-27 campaign.
Spears did not identify which team showed interest in Simmons. Any team in need of playmaking and defense could certainly deem giving him a flier to be worth it.

Perhaps the Los Angeles Lakers could use Simmons’ defense and glue-guy contributions as they look to cobble together a rotation that makes sense. Maybe the Phoenix Suns, a team that could use a more traditional playmaker, could find use for Simmons’ services.
Even the Golden State Warriors, a team that needs size on the wings, could give Simmons a shot. Simmons should perform well as a playmaking hub in their system, provided, of course, that he’s actually healthy enough to suit up in games.
Two contending teams who could have a spot for Simmons in their rotation are the Denver Nuggets and Minnesota Timberwolves; the Timberwolves, in particular, need frontcourt help following their offseason dealings, and Simmons thrives when playing in transition. And with Minnesota making a concerted effort to play fast, Simmons could be a hand and glove fit.
Whatever the case may be, Simmons could be back in the NBA next season, and with a huge chip on his shoulder, no less.
