If you haven't been paying attention this year, you may not have noticed just how well the Washington Nationals have been playing. They didn't have many expectations this season, which makes this all the better.
After finishing in last place in the National League East last year with a 66-96 record last year, they are currently in third place with a 54-52 record so far.
They have gotten elite offensive production so far, especially behind James Wood and CJ Abrams, while being especially aggressive on the basepaths, leading MLB in stolen bases.

Washington was able to handle business last week. They took on the Colorado Rockies , who have been struggling a bit lately, taking two games in the three-game series.
After that, they took on a much better team, the Arizona Diamondbacks , and had the same result. They took two of the three games, making for a 4-2 week. With this, Bleacher Report's Joel Reuter bumped this team up from No. 16 to No. 10 in his latest power rankings.
"In nine games since starting the All-Star Game at shortstop for the National League, CJ Abrams is hitting .487/.512/1.128 with seven home runs and 15 RBI as the Nationals continue to hang onto relevance. They reportedly plan to buy and sell at the deadline, and the one-for-one swap of Curtis Mead for Connelly Early with the Boston Red Sox has a chance to be an absolute heist."
Washington already made a move, trading Curtis Mead for Connelly Early, but they still have a chance to keep adding. With a week until the deadline, don't be surprised if they add some more arms and possibly another bat, as they are right in the thick of things for a wild card spot.
