Last season, when the Pittsburgh Steelers faced the Houston Texans in the playoffs, they didn't disclose that Aaron Rodgers may have been sick at the time, and that's a no-no.
Mike Silver of "The Athletic" broke the story about Rodgers being ill before the game.
“I wasn’t feeling good, and I actually came over to the team hotel, and they sent me home — probably because I was pale and looked like sh*t,” Rodgers told Silver on Saturday at Steelers training camp, which was later confirmed.
Silver said Rodgers’s symptoms included fever and vomiting. But he claims that he had recovered before kickoff.
“He’s definitely downplaying it,” said former Steelers offensive coordinator Arthur Smith. “There was never a question he was gonna play, and he’s never one to complain, but he looked terrible [before the game].”
Here's the problem: the team could face a huge fine from the league for failing to disclose this information.
This is the second time Smith has been involved in this kind of incident. In 2023, Smith received a $25,000 fine (the Falcons separately had to pay over $75,000) for not telling the league that running back Bijan Robinson was ill on the morning of a game. Like Rodgers, Robinson played anyway.
With all the controversy surrounding Rodgers this week, the team did not need to hear this news.
