The Minnesota Vikings ' quarterback situation has dominated headlines this offseason. Even after Kyler Murray was named the team's starter, speculation continues to swirl around J.J. McCarthy's future with the team.
Murray himself has a lot to prove in 2026, having only played a full season once over the past four seasons. Uneven performances in the Vikings' joint practices against the Baltimore Ravens last week didn't exactly put concerns to rest.
However, Minnesota is expecting the rest of the roster to help elevate Murray. But what if those areas aren't sufficient, either?
Gordon McGuiness of PFF suggested the Vikings' pass rush, not their quarterback room, is the team's biggest concern as the 2026 season approaches .
The Vikings traded away edge defender Jonathan Greenard, who led the team with 47 total pressures last season. Defensive coordinator Brian Flores’ scheme relies heavily on the blitz, so linebacker Eric Wilson could once again rank among the team’s leaders in total pressures. That approach also reduces the need for a true difference-maker off the edge compared to many other defenses, but the lack of an edge defender with a PFF pass-rush grade above 75.0 does limit the unit’s flexibility.
Christian Darrisaw was praising Dallas Turner earlier this week, saying the third-year EDGE rusher is primed for a " special " season. Turner was extremely disruptive during the joint practices against the Ravens.
However, until we see it in real games, it's going to be a tall task for Turner to replicate Greenard's production over the past two seasons. If Turner takes that step, Minnesota could once again terrorize quarterbacks. But if he doesn't translate his training camp success into regular season viability, the Vikings' pass rush could suffer, creating a domino effect throughout the rest of the defense.
