Marcus Rashford did well on loan at Barcelona last season, contributing clutch goals at critical moments in the UEFA Champions League and even in La Liga over the course of the season.
Despite his promising numbers, however, there was always an element of certainty that he was a tactical misfit in Hansi Flick’s technical team, especially in the buildup phase and his lack of clinical finishing.
Eventually, it was the latter sentiment that prevailed and the club decided to let go of its purchase option . Now, he is set to return to Manchester United for pre-season and will no longer be returning to Catalonia.
Rashford’s final message
Taking to his Instagram earlier today, Rashford penned his final farewell letter to the Barcelona faithful and expressed how much the stint meant to him.
“Extremely grateful to everyone at the club for turning my time here into such a positive and unforgettable experience,” he began.

“I’ve loved every moment and will carry those special memories with me,” he added, cherishing all the memories.
The Englishman then penned out how he wishes the best for the club, despite him not being a part of Hansi Flick’s plans anymore.
“Wishing the club and all the fans the very best of luck and massive success this season. Visca el Barça !”
Stacked in the department now
While the club indeed did not see Rashford’s permanent signing as the right plan moving ahead, Barcelona have done well to reinforce the left-wing which the Englishman provided cover in.

Anthony Gordon’s signing, needless to say, goes a long way in ensuring the team has a high-quality replacement and rotational option with Raphinha.
The England international, in fact, overshadowed Rashford at the FIFA World Cup and proved himself to be a handful for opposition defences.
Karim Adeyemi, meanwhile, arrives as a versatile option who can play on both wings. While he is expected to feature more on the right flank, he could very well chip in as an emergency left-winger based on the situation.
The club’s decision not to pursue Rashford, thus, appears to be a good one in hindsight.
