Finding a starting left guard was one of the team's top priorities in this year's training camp, and two players have already started separating themselves according to offensive line coach and acting head coach Chris Foerster.
Foerster is handling the head coach duties for Kyle Shanahan while Shanahan recovers from injuries he suffered in a mid-July car accident. While speaking with reporters following Sunday's training camp opener, Foerster gave an update on the left guard battle.

Colby is the lone remaining starter at the position from last season, and Jones is the most experienced veteran San Francisco has. That experience may give Jones an inside track at the starting job, but Colby has more time in the 49ers' offense and showed some flashes during his six starts last season.
There's still a lot of preseason left to play, and how a player fares in the offseason program and non-padded training camp practices can quickly become irrelevant once the pads come on. For now, those will continue being the two names to keep an eye on as training camp rolls along.
