Jupiter's Kyle Kirkwood won the inaugural Freedom 250 Grand Prix Sunday on the streets of Washington, D.C.
With President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania watching and presenting the winning trophy, Kirkwood led from start to finish to capture the NTT IndyCar Series race. With the Washington Monument, U.S. Capitol and other landmarks in the background, drivers raced over a 147-lap course set up in the nation's capital.
Kirkwood took the lead on the first lap, passing pole sitter and championship leader Alex Palou, and held off all challengers. It was his second IndyCar Series victory of the season, having won on another new street course in Arlington, Texas earlier this year.
Christian Lundgaard finished second and Will Power was third.
Donald Trump and Melania took an honorary lap around the track ahead of the race. The president and the first lady were in the Beast as the motorcade made its way around the track before Trump waved the green flag to start the race.
