The Detroit Tigers are one of the more interesting teams at the 2026 MLB trade deadline, as they have Tarik Skubal, Casey Mize, Gleyber Torres, and others who could fetch solid returns this summer.
But, since they're not too far out of the postseason hunt, there have been some questions about whether this team would actually trade players this season. But, just a few days away from the deadline, the updated odds point to one conclusion.
ESPN's Jeff Passan and Kiley McDaniel projected updated trade odds for Skubal, revealing that the two-time Cy Young-winning ace has a surprisingly high 90% chance of being traded by the August 3 MLB trade deadline.

"1. Tarik Skubal, LHP, Detroit Tigers. Chance of being traded: 90%," McDaniel and Passan project ahead of the deadline.
Passan and McDaniel note that Skubal is "far more likely than not" to be traded this summer, thanks in part to the hole the Tigers dug themselves into earlier this year.
With just two days before the trade deadline, it's looking very likely that the Tigers will be shipping Skubal off to a new club.
Even though the Tigers are just 3.5 games back of the AL Wild Card entering play on Saturday, the best course of action for the franchise is probably to trade Skubal.
The reason why is simple: the haul they could get for Skubal could set the team up for success well into the future.

Whether it's the Los Angeles Dodgers , Milwaukee Brewers , Tampa Bay Rays , Atlanta Braves , or any other team around baseball, the package the Tigers would land should be a massive one.
Since Skubal is hitting free agency after the season comes to a close, and his odds of leaving the Tigers in free agency are fairly high, it would make perfect sense to trade Skubal now amid a mediocre season.
ESPN is projecting the Tigers have a 90% chance to trade Skubal this summer, which is the highest projected odds for a deal involving the two-time Cy Young winner this year. Tigers fans should prepare for a Skubal trade, as it's looking very likely to happen.
