See the full story · 1 sourcesNew York Giants left tackle Andrew Thomas is aiming to return to his Pro Bowl form in 2026. The 2020 first-round pick is coming off a three-year stretch that saw injuries cripple both him and the Giants. Thomas played in just 29 of 51 possible games over that span.
But when Thomas is healthy, he is among the best in the league at his position. This offseason, Thomas is taking things slowly. His participation in OTAs and minicamp was managed so that he is fully ready for training camp this week. He is not focusing on what was, but what can be.
"It's a new year. All I can do is control what I can control," Thomas said in the spring. "That's trying to be the best player and best leader I can be. If I want this place to reach the goals that we have set, I got to be part of that, so that's what I'm trying to do."
Heading into this season, Thomas is still considered one of the NFL's top tackles. Pro Football Focus recently ranked him seventh among the league's 32 starters at the position.
When healthy, Thomas is one of the top blindside protectors in the NFL. The primary issue is that he has eclipsed 900 snaps just once in the past five seasons.
However, in his 13 games played in 2025, Thomas tied for fourth place among qualified tackles with a 90.3 PFF grade. He allowed just 13 total pressures, including one sack, while posting a career-high 84.5 PFF run-blocking grade. A consistently healthy Thomas gives the Giants their best chance to compete in a tough NFC East.
Thomas is one of four starters returning to the Giants' offensive front this season, along with right tackle Jermaine Eluemunor, center John Michael Schmitz and left guard Jon Runyan Jr. Last season, they were one of the NFL's best run-blocking units, and their pass protection was a respectable 15th overall.
The unit will get a shot in the arm from first-round pick Francis Mauigoa, this year's draft's top tackle, who the Giants are starting at right guard.
