The Test squad, led by captain Shubman Gill, will return to action on August 15 as India take on the hosts in the first match of the series at Galle.
India have named a strong squad that saw the return of star players like Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja to the Test squad, however, the team will miss all-rounder Washington Sundar, at least for the first Test, owing to an injury.
Bumrah and Sai Sudharsan's participation in the series is not a 100 per cent yet as them playing against Sri Lanka is subject to clearance from the medical team of BCCI.

— BCCI (@BCCI) July 28, 2026 Saransh Jain earns maiden India call-up at 33
With Washington Sundar ruled out of action at least for the first Test against Sri Lanka, India have named 33-year-old Madhya Pradesh spinner Saransh Jain as a replacement for the all-rounder.
Jain, who has been playing domestic cricket for Madhya Pradesh since 2014, was recently included in the India A squad that played against Sri Lanka in two List A games.
In the second Test at Galle, Jain scored 70 runs with the bat and picked up six wickets in two innings as India won both Test matches.
However, even though, Jain has earned maiden national team call-up, it is unlikely that he would immediately make it to the first team as the trio of Kuldeep Yadav, Manav Suthar and Ravindra Jadeja are likely to play in the first Test.
