Under his direction, the team won four titles and featured Stephen Curry, the greatest shooter of all time. In the early stages of the dynasty, however, the Warriors took time to figure out how to make things work.
Myers discussed the team’s journey when they were winning titles during an appearance on “Cousins with Vince Carter & Tracy McGrady.” According to the executive , he received major advice from former NBA star Jermaine O’Neal.
The former six-time All-Star played his final year with the Warriors during the 2013-14 season . With Curry as their top player, Golden State qualified for the postseason for the second consecutive year .

Unfortunately for Bob Myers and the Warriors, they were eliminated in the first round by the Los Angeles Clippers. O’Neal urged the executive to have faith in the process and avoid blowing up the team’s youthful core following their brief postseason run.
“We lost in the first round to the Clippers in seven games. He was banged up, his wrist was jacked,” Myers said. “I’m looking at the team, like, ‘Well, Steph’s looking like he could be something.’ Klay, Harrison Barnes, some of the young guys. Draymond plays in that series.”
After the @warriors lost in the first round, Bob Myers questioned what they had.
Then Jermaine O’Neal called him with a warning:

“Jermaine calls me three days after we lost. I’m thinking he’s gonna tell me that he’s retiring or whatever. He goes, ‘Hey man, listen to me. Do not break this team up.’ I was kinda like, ‘What’s so great about this team? We just lost in the first round. He goes, ‘I’ve been in a lot of at the end of the season, and this team knows how to lose.’ He said it bothered them the right amount.”
Bob Myers followed O’Neal’s advice, and the Warriors went on to become a prosperous dynasty.
Trading Andre Iguodala Was Tough, According to Bob Myers
Bob Myers continued to build around Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green. One of the key additions they made was one-time All-Star Andre Iguodala. He was the missing piece to the Warriors, and he even won the Finals MVP in 2015.
However, all good things had to end. In 2019, the Warriors traded Iggy to the Memphis Grizzlies for Julian Washburn. According to Myers, it was one of the most difficult decisions he had to make.
“Trading [Andre] Iguodala,” Myers said . “We had to trade Iguodala, who had won three championships with the team, in 2019 to sign D’Angelo Russell. And the way he took it, the professionalism, made it, as far as a player handling a tough thing, that I’ve never seen one do it as well as he did in that moment.”
Fortunately for Iguodala, he found his way back to the Warriors in 2021 and helped them win a title in 2022.
