Drew Brees will be enshrined in the Pro Football Hall of Fame on Saturday, Aug. 8, and he asked Payton to present him . Payton and Brees won a Super Bowl during their time with the New Orleans Saints , and many members of Payton's old New Orleans coaching staff followed him to Denver .
Payton and some of those coaches will travel to Canton, Ohio, after practice on Friday, Aug. 7. They will then miss practice on Aug. 8, but the team is off on Sunday, Aug. 9. Everyone will be back in time for practice to resume on Monday, Aug. 10 ( view the full camp schedule ).
"We’ll leave after Friday’s practice and then be back Sunday," Payton said last week. "I think the schedule there has changed over the years. They play the game on Thursday. There are a handful of guys here that shared a lot of those memories, and we’ll be excited for him.”
As of last week, Payton had not finalized how practice would go without him, but he said defensive coordinator Vance Joseph would likely lead the session. Joseph, of course, has head coach experience from his first stint in Denver.
