“As for that running game, it is clear Skattebo is the top back,” he stated. “Tracy and Devin Singletary are the preferred options in passing situations, but Skattebo is first up in almost every running drill and receives the majority of the carries throughout practice.

“Last year, especially early, there was closer to a 50-45-5 split among Skattebo, Tracy and Singletary. That is not the case now.”
The expected outcome

The expectation all along was that Cam Skattebo would be the Giants’ lead back in 2026 after he assumed that role before his injury last season.
The only question is: how much third-down work will Skattebo get?
From the looks of it at camp, he might cede some work to Tracy and/or Singletary in that area, so he may not be a true three-down back.

That said, Skattebo should still get a ton of work, even if he isn’t the preferred third-down option.
We know head coach John Harbaugh loves to run the football, and we saw how work Derrick Henry got with the Baltimore Ravens under Harbaugh, even though he often came off the field on third downs.
Henry finished top five in rushing attempts and was north of 300 carries in each of the last two seasons.
Giants could add at running back

Duggan believes that because the Giants were routinely linked to some big names at running back during the offseason, including Kenneth Walker and Jeremiyah Love, it’s not out of the realm of possibility they bring someone else in.
Duggan suggested veteran running back Najee Harris as a possible option.

“This is a sneaky position to watch for an addition before the opener. Cam Skattebo and Tyrone Tracy are fine, but we know the Giants were open to upgrading to a premier back (Jeremiyah Love),” Duggan explained.
“There aren’t any of those available now, but I could see a vet signing (Najee Harris once healthy?) or a trade,” he added.
That would certainly shake things up for the Giants’ backfield, but for now it appears Skattebo is the clear front-runner to be RB1 in New York.
