Liverpool want to sign a record-breaking star and they're at the front of the queue to do so.
Liverpool’s attack needs an injection of energy from the wing after a season in which they struggled badly to stretch teams. The Reds didn’t have the pace dynamism to attack from wide areas, nor were they good enough on the counter-attack, and it has them shopping for new talent this summer.
Yan Diomande was the priority, of course, but he’s now signed for Real Madrid. Now it’s Bradley Barcola heading the shortlist - and the Reds are in talks with Paris Saint-Germain about a move.
But that’s not all. Reports broke this week that Ibrahim Mbaye was wanted at Anfield and now it appears that they’ve gone straight to the front of the queue.
L’Equipe reports that both Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund are pushing hardest to sign Mbaye right now. The winger is fully expected to move somewhere this summer, especially after PSG completed a deal for Maghnes Akliouche from AS Monaco.

Liverpool, who aren’t actually linked with any other right-wingers, will attempt to sign Mbaye and pair him with the remarkably similar Rio Ngumoha long-term. Ngumoha lit up the scene for the Reds last season, while the marginally-older Mbaye actually went even further.
The winger became the youngest African goalscorer in World Cup history with his strike against France this summer. It makes him the fourth-youngest goalscorer of any nationality, and it’s plainly clear that he’s the future of Senegalese football.
Liverpool, then, hope he can also be a part of the future at Anfield. They’ll continue to push hard on this one and fancy their chances of beating Dortmund if they can offer Mbaye proper minutes.
That will likely be the deciding factor here. Mbaye wants out of PSG in order to get more minutes and guarantee development time - any club that signs him will need to offer him just that.
So let’s see what Liverpool can do.
