The team announced they had officially placed Walker on season-ending injured reserve on Thursday, and in a corresponding move, announced they had signed defensive back Keidron Smith.
The signing of Keidron Smith as a safety instead of an edge rusher may serve as an outlier to Jessie Bates III. The All-Pro missed Tuesday and Wednesday's practice and was spotted on the exercise bike within the facility.
The Falcons will more than likely look to fill Walker's role on the defensive side of the ball for several reasons. One factor is that James Pearce Jr. could face discipline from the league to start the season for his recent troubles. DeAngelo Malone is out with an injury, and the timeframe may be up in the air.
Keidron Smith hasn't had a whole lot of snaps in his short career, but he should get ample opportunity in Flowery Branch to make the active roster for Atlanta.
