About 30 minutes before Boston’s game against the New York Heights, the team announced Jemile Weeks would take over for Keith Foulke effective immediately.
“We would like to thank Keith Foulke for his contributions to the team and his efforts on behalf of the club,” the Hunters posted on X . “We are looking forward to building a winning team culture under Jemile Weeks’ guidance.”
It’s unclear if Foulke was relieved of his duties or left on his own terms.
Foulke, who was named manager on July 26 , spent three seasons with the Red Sox and helped the team win its first World Series in 86 years in 2004. The pitcher was on the mound and was part of the game-ending play to sweep the St. Louis Cardinals.
Weeks spent six seasons in Major League Baseball, two of them with the Red Sox in 2014 and 2015. In 17 games for Boston, he hit .314 with four RBI.
Boston was one of four cities chosen for the inaugural WPBL season. New York, San Francisco and Los Angeles were the others.
