Romo, 46, was booked on a charge of operating while intoxicated, first offense after performing poorly on standardized field sobriety tests.

The California Post reported July 27 that Romo was cited for refusing the test after he was pulled over on a Wisconsin interstate shortly after he completed a round at the Wisconsin Amateur Championship golf tournament.
A spokesperson for the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s office told The Post that because of the allegations against Romo, the case is “a traffic violation and not a criminal charge in Wisconsin.”
Romo spent his 13-year NFL career with the Cowboys. An undrafted free agent, Romo leapfrogged others on the Dallas depth chart to become a franchise quarterback. He finished his career with 34,183 passing yards and 248 touchdown passes — the most in Cowboys history.

Romo also earned four Pro Bowl selections, posted a 97.1 career passer rating, and won two playoff games.
After he retired in 2017, Romo became CBS Sports’ lead NFL analyst alongside play-by-play man Jim Nantz. He gained immediate recognition for accurately predicting offensive plays before they unfolded.
In 2024, he called his third Super Bowl — Super Bowl LVIII from Las Vegas — and has been nominated for two Emmy awards for his analysis.

In 2009, Eastern Illinois University retired Romo’s No. 17 jersey and inducted him into the EIU Hall of Fame. Romo is originally from Burlington, Wisconsin, where he still hosts a free youth football camp annually.
Romo has yet to comment publicly about his arrest. His attorney, Julius Kim, did not immediately respond to the Post’s request for comment about the court records.
According to the Post, Romo was given a court date of Sept. 21. CBS is schedule to air the Week 1 game between the Green Bay Packers and Minnesota Vikings on Sept. 13. Its next telecast is a Week 3 game bewteen the Baltimore Ravens and Dallas Cowboys in Brazil on Sept. 27.
