Andrews-Callec relishes GB experience at World U20's

Jersey's Bradley Andrews-Callec says he has learned a lot from racing for Great Britain at the World Athletics Under-20 Championships.
The 19-year-old competed in the 3000m steeplechase in the championships which were held at the world-famous Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon - the host track of the 2022 World Championships and many of the United States' major meets.
Andrews-Callec finished 12th in his heat in a time of 9:08.07, just under 18 seconds off a place in the final and less than 15 seconds off his personal best.
"The experience was brilliant out in Oregon," he told BBC Jersey.
"It was top eight from the heat to qualify into the final.
"I just missed out on the final, but I had to take the race out because it was going a little bit slow on the early couple of laps, so for the first sort of 2000m, I just sat at the front, controlled it.
"Unfortunately, in the latter stages, I didn't quite make it. That's championship racing for you. Sometimes it goes your way.
"It's a great learning experience to learn how these better, more mature runners do things, and there's other ways of doing things to what you always think is right."

Andrews-Callec has come up through the Jersey Spartans Athletics Club and says it is a great experience to progress all the way through to international honours.
"It feels amazing to put on the kit," he said.
"I've worked towards trying to put this kit on for so long now, all the hard work and hours of running, strength training, and to be able to say now I've put the kit on and go out there and race a race I'm happy with just feels amazing.
"I watched the steeplechase for years while I was doing the 5000m and 3000m.
"I always thought I could give that a go and it's something I've always wanted to do, and then I gave it a go and when I realised how good I was at it, I thought 'why did I never give this a go any sooner?'
Andrews-Callec's success comes at a great time for teenage sports people from Jersey.
Swimmer Filip Nowacki, 18, won gold and silver at the Commonwealth Games earlier this month and is currently racing at the European Championships, having won two World Junior titles last year.
Andrews-Callec says it goes to show that if you are talented enough you can reach the top level of your sport, even if you live away from the UK mainland.
"It's come at a great time at the moment because we've had Filip who's done really well in the swimming, so two of us who have done really well and are doing really good for the island.
"We've had people from Jersey that have competed at their high level sport and just because you're from Jersey doesn't mean you can't do it.
"If you want it enough, you'll make sure it happens."
