A lot more is likely on the horizon for the Mets after that trade of Minter. Clay Holmes and Brooks Raley are two more likely trade candidates, but Freddy Peralta might be the headliner.
Amid those rampant Peralta trade rumors, USA Today's Bob Nightengale is reporting that the Mets have "no plans" to offer Peralta a contract extension. It's not a surprise considering his struggles, but it's a noteworthy update that indicates a trade is very likely.

"They are also trying to trade starter Freddy Peralta, and have no plans to sign him to an extension," Nightengale reports.
The Mets' planning to sell, and part with Peralta in the process, should not be a surprise to any Mets fans or fans of other teams around baseball.
Unless Peralta were to sign an extension with the Mets, which might've seemed like a possibility at the start of the year, the Mets are going to trade the right-hander this summer.
The former two-time All-Star has not lived up to the hype this season at all, posting a 4.99 ERA with -0.2 bWAR and a 5-9 record in 22 starts for the Mets.
His 83 ERA+ is the worst mark of his MLB career, which is an unfortunate thing for the Mets for a few reasons. Beyond the sting of trading a ton for Peralta, and for him not to live up to the hype, his struggles now have his trade value a lot lower than it was before.

There is zero chance the Mets receive what they gave up over the offseason to the Milwaukee Brewers for Peralta at the 2026 MLB trade deadline.
Peralta might be able to bring back a decent package of prospects, as his 2025 season ERA of 2.70 might be enough to get interested teams to believe in the upside.
But the Mets might be hard-pressed to receive the kind of package they want for giving up on Peralta after just a little over half a season. Unfortunately, they don't have a choice but to trade him this summer.
With the Mets not expected to offer an extension to Peralta, there is little to no reason to retain him through the deadline this year. He's worth more in a trade than not.
Nightengale is reporting the Mets are not planning to offer him an extension, and that should lead to a trade for the 30-year-old former All-Star right-hander.
