Nole of the Week: FSU midfielder, forward Sam Erbach
After scoring the Seminoles’ first goal of the 2026 season, junior midfielder and forward Sam Erbach was selected as the FSView's first ’Nole of the Week for fall 2026.
Erbach is a newcomer that wasted little time making an impact for Florida State women’s soccer. In her first official appearance with the program, the Xavier University transfer scored for the Seminoles in a 4-0 victory over Stetson University on Aug. 13.

Before joining FSU, Erbach put together a standout sophomore season at Xavier, starting all 22 matches and finishing with 18 goals, 16 assists, and 52 points. Her 16 assists set a single-season program assist record, while her goal and point totals both ranked second in Xavier history.
Erbach was also named the Big East Co-Midfielder of the Year, earned All-Big East First Team honors, and was selected as a United Soccer Coaches Third Team All-American.
The FSView spoke with Erbach about her transition to the Garnet and Gold, her goals for the season, her interests away from soccer, and the importance of family in her life.

Erbach: It’s been pretty good. It’s definitely a lot different than Xavier, but the level is super high, super competitive, and super intense. Everyone is so good, which makes it a lot easier to get so much better.
Q: What have you thought about Tallahassee and the FSU campus so far?
Erbach: It’s very hot, very humid, for sure, but I love the campus. I love all the trees on campus. It’s super pretty.
Q: Who has helped you feel most comfortable since arriving at Florida State?
Erbach: The staff here and the coaches, all the additional staff and the trainers. Everybody has been awesome, super supportive, super welcoming, and super friendly.
Q: What did it mean to score in your first official game as a Seminole?
Erbach: It was pretty awesome. I never really thought I’d be at a school like this, or Florida State, so to score a goal for a program like this was awesome.
Q: If you had to describe this team in one word, what would it be and why?
Erbach: Intense. It’s a very, very high level. Everyone has certain standards for each other. We all want to be the best. We all want to win. We all are fighting for another national championship.
Q: Who is the most outgoing person on the team?
Erbach: Bridget Mutipula.
Q: What is something you would want Seminole fans to know about you?
Erbach: I love running. I did track at my old school, so I definitely really enjoy running. I’m also super, super close with my family.
Q: Has your family been able to come watch you play at Florida State?
Erbach: For our scrimmage, they were here, and then my dad was at both of the last two games. My sister’s coming Thursday, and my mom and dad are coming Sunday.
Q: Do you have any pregame rituals or traditions?
Erbach: Here, I don’t really have any yet. I used to braid a lot of people on my team’s hair at my old school, but I don’t really do that here.
Q: What song or artist is always on your pregame playlist?
Erbach: This is going to sound crazy, but I don’t really listen to music. I don’t usually listen to music in my car. I just drive. Just think.
Q: Other than soccer, what sports do you enjoy watching?
Erbach: I like watching football, track and field, and cross country.
Q: What soccer teams do you enjoy following?
Erbach: I don’t really watch men’s soccer much. I really like Gotham, and I like watching the U.S. Women’s National Team.
Q: Who is your favorite athlete?
Erbach: Mallory Swanson.
Q: If you could be a guest on any talk show, which one would you choose?
Erbach: The Ellen Show, just because I used to watch it all the time when I was younger. I loved that show when I was a kid.
Q: What role do you hope to have on this team throughout the season?
Erbach: I hope to be somebody who they can allow to help score goals, assist goals, just be dangerous in attack.
Erbach has already provided a glimpse of the impact she hopes to make by finding the back of the net in her first official appearance with Florida State. With an entire season still ahead, the junior will look to build on that start and play her part in the Seminoles’ pursuit of another national championship.
